St. Louis Park, Minnesota
St. Louis Park was our June 2026 Twin Cities base — a week at a TownePlace Suites in this inner-ring suburb just west of Minneapolis, before flying home through Denver.
Our experience
We liked St. Louis Park for its convenience and character: it sits right against Minneapolis, with quick access to the Chain of Lakes, regional bike trails, and downtown, while still feeling calmer and more residential than staying in the city center.
It's an established suburb with parks, trails, restaurants, and shopping of its own, but the real appeal for us was how easily it connected to everything we enjoy around the Twin Cities. For a comfortable home base on the west side of the metro, with lakes and city attractions just minutes away, it fit our Minnesota routine perfectly.
St. Louis Park has produced some surprisingly famous names. Filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen grew up here, and their 2009 film A Serious Man drew heavily on the suburban Minnesota environment they knew as children.
Must-sees and must-dos
- Cedar Lake & the Chain of Lakes — head just east into Minneapolis for biking, walking, swimming, and some of the city's best-known lake scenery.

- The West End — enjoy one of St. Louis Park's main dining, shopping, and entertainment districts.
- Bde Maka Ska & Lake Harriet — spend time around two of Minneapolis's famous urban lakes, with trails, beaches, and parkland.

Our pro tip
We'd choose St. Louis Park for its sweet spot — right next to Minneapolis and the Chain of Lakes without needing to stay in the middle of downtown. The Cedar Lake Regional Trail is one of the biggest advantages if you like walking or biking. It connects St. Louis Park directly toward downtown Minneapolis and into the broader regional trail network.
A car still helps for exploring the wider Twin Cities, but you can reach lakes, parks, restaurants, and Minneapolis attractions quickly from here.
